My New Favorite Linux

My very first experience with linux was Slackware 1.1.2 back in 1994. The install was on a HP 486 desktop using a stack of floppies and it took hours. When I was done I had an incredibly functional machine considering it was 33Mhz with 6Megs of RAM. I stuck with Slackware until some time around version 7 when I converted to Red Hat 7 which offered an easier install process.

Colem ported to MorphOS

Back in 2005 I ported Marat Fayzullin's ColEm Colecovision emulator to AmigaOS 4. In 2006 I added a Reaction based launcher and in 2008 I released what I thought would probably be my last update. Now almost three years to the day later I have ported ColEm to MorphOS.

MorphOS Newbie Part 1

I've wanted to try out MorphOS for a long time but due to the cost of hardware it just wasn't an option. That all changed when support for G4 Macs was added to the OS. Up until recently G4 iMacs and eMacs were the only Macs supported. I wasn't interested in either of those because of the lack of expandability so I waited. Recently PowerMac G4's were added so I started looking for a machine. I ended up buying a 1.4 Ghz dual processor PowerMac G4 used for $150.

New York Times API

At work we recently migrated from Sirsi Unicorn to Evergreen. In the process we lost some Sirsi provided content and our patrons let us know they were not happy. One of the complaints was the loss of the New York Times Bestsellers list. A quick Google search turned up the New York Times API.

I've built a quick and dirty Drupal module which fetches the current lists from the New York Times and pulls book covers from Amazon. You can see the development version on the left.

First Post

So this is my first post. I originally setup this site with MediaWiki out of pure laziness but quickly found that to be too limiting. On top of that I also support a TWiki based site which uses a very different syntax. I just don't need that much complexity in my life. After having a completed MediaWiki based site rot on my hard drive for 2+ years I decided to do something different.

Drupal to the rescue! I manage a Drupal site at work so it is the logical choice.
